3 Tips to Help You Choose the Perfect Holiday Outfit
Hey Y'all!
The holiday season has officially begun!
There are two things that I have to experience to signal to me that that the holiday season has started. First, I have to see Santa shut down the Macy's Day Parade on Thanksgiving &
second, I have to hear "Let it Snow" by Boyz II Men on the radio (pacifically like the ocean).
The latter hasn't happened yet but 1 out of 2 ain't bad!
Now that Thanksgiving is over you should start receiving reminders via Evite/text/pigeon for all of those holiday parties you RSVP'd to a month ago. Which will inadvertently remind you that you need something to wear. No need to panic. I have a few tips to help you pick the
perfect holiday outfit.
Rent Your Gown
One of the things I love about the holidays is that you get a chance to dress up. It's the one season where the more sequins the better. For me personally, that rule applies all year round!
You may get an invite to a black tie or semi-formal soiree' that requires you to wear a gown. Now, you can very well purchase a gown for few $100 dollars, wear it & throw it in the back of your closet after it's been on Instagram once OR you can rent a dress for a fraction of the cost.
Now, purchasing a gown is a good investment if you happen to have a few events to attend in the next year. However, if this is not the case then a great alternative is Rent The Runway. I have used Rent the Runway a number of times over the years & I love it. It totally makes me feel like, WHY didn't I think of that!?! It's a site where you can rent DESIGNER clothing and accessories for less. The site is so affordable. I actually had my bridal party rent their dresses from there.
Pick Pieces that Can be Worn Again (& AGAIN)
Separates are always a great choice when shopping for your holiday look. The reason being is after the holidays you can pair the separates with other pieces to create more looks. More looks = more bang for your buck. For instance, this is my holiday ensemble I wore last year. Since then I have worn this sequin top with ripped jeans. Also, this skirt can easily be paired with a simple white tee, bodysuit or a statement tee. This skirt has pockets too which is dope.
Separates are also a great way to flatter the areas on your body you like and accentuate the parts of your body you love. As you can see I chose a high waisted skirt because I like my stomach. However, I love my arms & legs so I accentuated them by wearing a short sleeve top and a skirt. Remember...
"Flatter what you Like & Accentuate what you LOVE when choosing an outfit."
Think Outside The Box
When I chose my Bridesmaid dresses I wanted them to feel gorgeous, their dresses to feel special and made for them. The day of their dress fitting at Rent the Runway one of the stylist suggested to wear one of the dresses backwards to give me another look option. I was so happy! Instantly I knew which bridesmaids should wear this look. My sister-in-love as seen in this pic looked great! A little double stick fashion tape and voila... NEW Look. It reminded me that sometimes you have to add your own creative spin on a look and think outside of the box. Have that in mind when you are shopping . How can you show your style with your holiday look?
Whatever you decide to wear just make sure the outfit Woos you.
This is what I like to call The Woo Factor. That's the feeling I had when I decided to wear this silver sequin number. Whatever mood you want to evoke the night of the party whether it is sexy, sophisticated, chic, etc.. make sure your ensemble evokes that along with some confidence & sass!
